Medical Transportation Insurance Providers and Prime Insurance

Looking for the best medical transportation insurance provider? Prime Insurance Company should be at the top of your list. Our partnership approach requires that we speak with the producer and the insured so we can better understand everyone’s needs in order to provide the right coverage, the right service, and most importantly, a healthy relationship.

Accidents do happen. According to the Transportation Safety Advancement Group, “vehicle fatality rates are estimated to be up to 4.8 times higher for emergency responders than average vehicle fatality rates nationally. An estimated 6,500 crashes involving ambulances occur each year.” It’d be wise to go with a trusted medical transport insurance provider such as Prime to handle claims promptly and professionally with exceptional results!

A lot of people go with cheaper markets that will cost them and their insured more in the long run! Over the past years, many of the cheaper markets have run into trouble, gone broke, or stopped writing. As a result, Prime is writing more business and we remain committed to doing it right! Insureds need a more efficient medical transportation insurance company and a better partner that’s willing to fight frivolous lawsuits practiced by legal professionals nationwide.

In short, Prime won’t compete with your other markets from a premium standpoint, but we will help you write the business you are turning away today. Plus, we’ll be by your side when a claim or lawsuit is filed against you.

EMT vs. NET

Both Emergency Medical Transportation (EMT) and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT/NET) provide medical transportation services for patients. While similar in this aspect, there are several differences between these two services.

EMT

Private ambulance services, governmental fire and rescue services or public hospital districts typically run EMT services. This service is specifically designed to handle medical emergencies. When someone dials 911, an EMT vehicle is dispatched.

EMTs and paramedics can start treating patients as soon as they arrive on the scene because their vehicles have diagnostic and life-saving equipment. If further medical treatment is necessary, an EMT will take patients to a hospital or trauma center.

NET

Medical clinics, private ambulance services or transportation providers run NET services. These vehicles are not equipped to handle emergencies or life-threatening situations. Instead, they transport patients who either can’t transport themselves or don’t have any transportation.

Patients typically use this service when they need to get to an appointment at a medical facility, clinic or doctor’s office. Elderly individuals and those with chronic conditions often rely on NEMTs to get to and from their appointments. People also use NETs to visit a specialist outside the city or for long-distance travel.

Types of EMT Vehicles and NEMT Vehicles

EMT vehicles are equipped with standard features like sirens and medical supplies. There are several different types of EMT vehicles, such as:

  • Type I: Mounted on a truck-like chassis for strength and durability.
  • Type II: Mounted on a cut-a-way van chassis to create a low floor height for easy access.
  • Type III: Mounted on a van-type chassis and designed with a raised roof.

First responders have other EMT vehicles that they can use for various purposes in an emergency, ranging from a support vehicle to a rescue truck.

There are also different types of NEMT vehicles designed to transport non-ambulatory patients. NETs often use short or long-cut van conversions because they can easily accommodate a wheelchair. Other NEMT vehicles include:

  • Medical cars
  • Shuttle busses
  • Ambulances without the sirens and lights

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Insurance Requirements

Non-emergency medical transportation insurance is designed to protect the vehicles that transport patients to and from their medical appointments. Whether it’s a wheelchair conversion van or a medical sedan, there are several requirements to keep in mind when determining your NEMT insurance. Vehicle-specific factors that can influence NEMT insurance include:

  • The age of the vehicle
  • The type of vehicle
  • The seating capacity
  • The types of features on the vehicle
  • The age of the drivers

Minimum coverage requirements can vary depending on the specific private facilities or clinics you work with. These potential differences are why it’s important to go over your contracts to determine your coverage needs.

Several other factors can influence the cost of NEMT insurance besides the vehicle itself, including:

  • Your location
  • Travel radius
  • Value of the vehicle and equipment on it
  • Your driving history
  • Your claims history

The specific coverage you have will also affect the cost of your non-emergency medical transportation insurance.
